What is Cricket?
Cricket is a sport played on a large field with a bat and a ball. Each team has 11 players on the field. Cricket is similar to baseball in the fact that the batter (the person with the bat) tries to score runs and the pitcher (the person with the ball) tries to dismiss the batter. There are many different varieties of Cricket, however the original and the most common is test cricket. In test cricket there are two innings, meaning that one team has to strike out the other team twice. Cricket is a very complex sport, however once you fully understand the rules and can be very enjoyable and competitive.
Who plays Cricket?
Many people in Sri Lanka play cricket, both men and women. They start playing at a very early age and some are even lucky enough to play on Sri Lanka's national team. Cricket was first introduced to Sri Lanka when Britain colonized Sri Lanka. It was very popular in Britain, and they brought the sport to Sri Lanka.
Popular Team
The most popular team of Sri Lanka is their mens national team. Their national team is very good and competes in the Cricket world cup. The team competes against many different countries like Australia, India, and New Zealand. The Cricket world cup is only held every four years, and they have won the world cup once and been runner ups two years.
Attending a Game
When attending a cricket game you should respect the game and respect that it is the umpires decision to make the decisions. You may cheer but during a break in play and you may not shout out things that are disrespectful to the players, coaches, or umpires.
